Theresa B Frederick – Founder and Business and Project Management Consultant

Ms. Frederick holds a MSc. Accounting degree and a BSc Management (Honours) Degree from the University of the West Indies, a Diploma in Project Formulation and Evaluation from the Organization of American States Programme, a Certificate from the International Institute for learning Inc. Re the Kerzner Approach to Project Management Excellence, Project Management Certification from the Project Management Institute of the United States of America and an Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Supply from CIPS Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply

She has more than thirty years’ experience working with the small and medium enterprise sector having started her career as a loans officer of the Agricultural Development Bank working directly with farmers to assist them in obtaining funding for their enterprises and providing guidance to them so that they can improve their holdings. She quickly rose to Branch Manager and then Operations Manager in charge of the branch office network of the Bank in Trinidad and Tobago. In this position, she was in charge of the management of the Bank’s lending portfolio and so has a good understanding of what banks require to approve funding for a business proposal.

She was later promoted to the Executive Management Positions of Senior Divisional Manager Corporate Services and later Corporate Manager, Planning with responsibility for the Banks Strategic Planning process and monitoring of the implementation of the strategic plan. She can, therefore, help small and medium entrepreneurs to develop and implement their business strategic plans. At the Business Development Company, Ms. Frederick was Manager Research, Policy, Planning and Project Management in which position she designed projects and proposed policy to facilitate improvement in the operations of the small and medium enterprises sector and hence improve the lot of the entrepreneurs. 

Ms. Frederick is a registered teacher who has done business management training with existing and prospective entrepreneurs in Trinidad and Tobago and Antigua. Her ability to make teaching material easily understood was responsible for her being asked to prepare a Manual for Trainers of Entrepreneurship of the Youth Training and Employment Partnership Programme (YTEPP), an Information Booklet on Microcredit and Entrepreneurship for the Ministry of Small and Micro Enterprise Development for use by children and to adapt to Trinidad and Tobago  the International Labour Organization’s SYB, Start Your Own Business Manual, which is an Entrepreneurship text used by Costaatt. She has also prepared various manuals and procedural documents.

She has worked with national and international agencies, Non-Government Organizations and Faith Based Organizations in the area of Agricultural Management, Business Management and training and  the design and implementation of projects. She is also a life skills trainer with the YTEPP LTD Retraining programme facilitating the Life Skills Level one and two programmes. Ms. Frederick has lectured project management to officers from various government ministries at the Public Service Academy of the Ministry of Public Administration and Information and in-house to officers of the Service Commissions and Directors of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land, and Marine Resources.  She has also lectured Project Management at Roytec, Costaatt and presently teaches at Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies where she has taught more than twelve project management courses.  From 2018 – 4th March 2022, Ms Frederick was the Procurement Specialist of the Cipriani College of labour and Cooperative Studies.

Theresa’s passion is for the development of the Caribbean Region. She has formed a LinkedIn group called Business, Project Management, and Life Skills writers of the Caribbean to promote the writing and publishing of material in these subjects by Caribbean persons. This is to ensure that more of our University textbooks are written by Caribbean persons who have a Caribbean focus. We have also developed a website www.caribbeanwritermarketplace.com to showcase books, videos, and other material of Caribbean persons. I invite you to join both of these ventures.  We are looking for volunteers for the website.

Stalin Jones – Business Management Consultant now deceased

He Jones is now deceased but I have left his profile here in rememberance of the work we did together among them being adapting for Trinidad and Tobago, the International Labour Organization book entitled “Start your own business book.”  

Mr. Stalin Jones has a Certificate in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies St. Augustine. He has extensive business experience gained in twenty-one years at the Agricultural Development Bank and later at the Business Development Company Ltd. He has a background in training started when he was the Farm Management and Training Officer of the Bank in which position he facilitated Farm Management Training to Customers and Staff.

He has prepared sector specific material as well as general business material. This included farm management manuals for pig producers, broiler and layer farmers and orchard crops farmers. He also developed Record Keeping Systems for Agribusinesses and Researched and Documented Agricultural Practices. He was an Associate in the development of the Training Manual for Microentrepreneurship tutors of YTEPP and also the Information Booklet on Microcredit and Entrepreneurship for the Ministry of Small and Micro Enterprise Development.

He has tutored Microentrepreneurship courses at TTHTI and at YTEPP and provided training to existing and potential Entrepreneurs during the Business Development Company’s, Small Business Week training. He also facilitated training in Business Planning and Record Keeping and held General Management Training Workshops. His training activities include outreach Programmes in Communities and Schools.

His knowledge includes assisting entrepreneurs who experience problems meeting their loan commitments and whose enterprises are also experiencing difficulties, to develop and implement strategies to improve their performance and to deal successfully with their delinquency. This experience was gained as a senior officer in the Loans Evaluation Division of the Agricultural Development Bank, as the Manager of its Recoveries Division, a post he held for four years and as an officer at the Taurus Company, a branch of the First Citizen’s bank that dealt with delinquent accounts. He is very successful at turning around businesses experiencing difficulties and helping entrepreneurs to resolve their financial problems. At the Taurus company, he negotiated the settlement of long outstanding debts recovering millions of dollars annually.

Mr. Jones is based in Tobago and has done extensive work developing proposals for funding for entrepreneurs in the fishery and tourism sectors. He is also very active doing surveys and is a Field supervisor for the Central Statistical Office and the Department of Agriculture agricultural census. He recently did a survey of fish processes and beach facilities for a study for the Business Development Company regarding the business advisory needs of the fishing sector of Trinidad and Tobago. His sector specific knowledge will be of great assistance to entrepreneurs in Trinidad and Tobago.

At the Business development Company, he successfully executed the loan guarantee programme among Medium and Small businesses.  He also submitted 2 overall winners, 4 category winners and 2 winners of the award for innovation in the Best Business Awards Competition (Trinidad & Tobago) of the Business Development Company between 1999 and 2001.  His areas of expertise are training, development of manuals, agricultural and business management inclusive of the resolution of business problems.

I am refocusing the business and will work with associate consultants.  They will be chosen based on the requirements of the assignment and their relevant experience.
